The inaugural Comment Awards will celebrate the achievements of the finest print and online commentators, bloggers, and their editors.
Media analysis and networking business Editorial Intelligence has invited Sir Christopher Meyer, chairman of the Press Complaints Commission, to chair the panel of judges.
The shortlist of candidates for each category will be announced in September. Award categories include Political Commentator, Financial Commentator, Media Commentator and Online Newspaper Blog.
Chief executive Julia Hobsbawm said: ‘Comment is in many ways the defining point of difference for media today. Commentators themselves are often the brand ambassadors for their media.
‘We want to bring focus to the genre of comment with more than ten key awards to mark out the strongest in print and online comment. It is about marking the coming of age for the Commentariat.’
The awards will be announced on 13 October over a champagne breakfast, with commentator and broadcaster Peter York as the host.
