Flack: (Saving) on expenses - TerraVina, New Forest, Hampshire

Reviewer: Chris Wotton, PR director, The Remarkable Group

- What is it good for?

Diners can watch their food being prepared in the open kitchen at this award winning Californian-style restaurant. If wine is your tipple, on hand at TerraVina is world renowned sommelier Gerard Basset or his protege Laura Rhys, who recently won the UK Sommelier of the Year.

- Signature dish

To start, locally sourced blue cheese, purple sprouting broccoli and pancetta salad and to finish home grown white lavender pannacotta with grenadine-soaked oranges.

- Who's the boss?

Former Hotel du Vin owners Gerard and Nina Basset started this latest hotel venture last summer. Gerard holds an MBA in wine and has finished second three times in the World Sommelier Championship. Nina was the youngest hotel inspector in the UK.

- Any tips?

If the weather is warm enough eat al fresco on the veranda with the view of the gardens.

- What's the damage?

The lunch menu is priced at £19.50 for two courses or £26 for three.
