Andrew Stott will be based in the Government Communication department of the Cabinet Office, which is overseen by permanent secretary for Government communications Matt Tee.
Stott is being promoted to the role from his current job of Government deputy chief information officer in the Cabinet Office.
He will work across Government departments to improve their development in conversing and collaborating with citizens through digital technology.
The new title was created to take forward the Government’s ‘power of information’ agenda, which aims to ensure it understands the changes in communication and information technology.
Stott will also be responsible for implementing the recommendations of the ‘power of information’ taskforce and increasing the civil service’s use of internal digital tools to improve cross-Government coordination.
