Chairman Lord Bell said first-quarter operating income rose 13 per cent year on year, while operating profit margin increased to 17.2 per cent.

The interim earnings release puts Chime’s fortunes in contrast with its contemporaries. WPP Group and Interpublic Group reported Q1 revenue drops of 5.8 per cent and 5.6 per cent respectively.

Chime’s statement also admitted the loss of the 2012 Olympics marketing comms contract to McCann Erickson.
