Ferstman, who has worked at the video-sharing website in the US for over two years, started his position this week. He reports to Jessica Powell, director of product, engineering, policy, and internal communications and works alongside Oliver Rickman, who runs YouTube comms in the UK.

Google bought YouTube in 2006 for £883m and Ferstman will be working as part of the internet giant’s London-based team.

This month YouTube made headlines when it decided to remove popular music videos from its UK site, following a high-profile royalties dispute with the Performing Rights Society for Music, the trade body that collects music royalties.
