Adam Liversage, BT's head of corporate media relations, is expected to join the organisation formerly known as the British Phonographic Industry in mid-May.
Liversage was at BT for five years, before which he was public relations manager at Universal Music International for four years.
Liversage said: 'The music industry is in a period of transition where it¹s both defending and growing its digital music business. It¹s a period when communicating these developments is going to come to the fore.'
Liversage replaces Matt Phillips, who has joined the BBC as head of comms for the BBC's future media and technology team - the division responsible for last year's launch of iPlayer.
