Replacing Flic Howard-Allen, who is joining Hill & Knowlton, Fry will oversee the retail giant’s product and corporate PR teams, as well as its government, internal and investor relations functions. His appointment was revealed on prweek.co.uk on 27 March.
On Tuesday the media spotlight fell on M&S again as it released better than expected trading results, but executive chairman Sir Stuart Rose came under shareholder pressure to relinquish some of his power.
Fry said: ‘It is an extremely exciting job and a very exciting company. This is not an opportunity you walk past. Right now is a fabulous time to be joining the business.’
Fry will start his role on 22 April, reporting to Rose. He has been at Tulchan since 2006 and has worked closely with M&S, which retains Tulchan for financial comms. Before Tulchan, Fry was comms director at Scottish Power and group comms director at Sainsbury’s. He also held top comms roles at Eurotunnel and AT&T.
Howard-Allen is quitting M&S after seven years to join H&K as senior client services director.
