News Corporation has appointed Alice Macandrew to the newly created role of director of corporate communications for Europe and Asia. Macandrew previously worked as a partner at financial agency Finsbury. She will be based in London.

The Crop Protection Association is poised to hand out a major public affairs brief six months after parting company with Lexington Communications. The association, which represents makers of pesticides, used Lexington on a retained basis before moving the work in-house. It is now in talks with Bellenden Public Affairs.

The Royal College of Surgeons
has appointed Matt Davies, a former aide to Liberal Democrat MP Ed Davey, as head of public affairs. He joins from the Healthcare Commission, where he spent two years as external relations manager.

Mandate Communications has signed up Macmillan Cancer Support policy and public affairs manager Rachel Rowson as an account manager focusing on health clients.

Sainsbury’s
has reappointed Interel Cabinet Stewart to handle its European public affairs. The EU specialist agency has held on to the account despite the supermarket switching from Fishburn Hedges to Edelman in the UK (PRWeek, 13 March).
