Sainsbury's boss departs

Sainsbury's director of comms Pip Wood is to leave the supermarket giant in the summer.

As revealed on prweek.com (16 March) Wood will take voluntary redundancy later in the year after 11 years at the firm. She joined Sainsbury's in 1998 initially as head of press and took overall control of its comms function in 2004.

Wood told PRWeek she did not yet have her next role lined up, but would look to take part-time or interim work and devote more time to her family.

'I have been wanting to take my foot off the gas and spend more time with my children,' she said. 'I am sad to leave, but excited about new challenges and of course looking forward to a change in pace.'

Wood's role oversees consumer and corporate comms, media relations and PR around Sainsbury's property portfolio.

She moved to Sainsbury's after a decade as media relations manager at catalogue retailer Argos.

Sainsbury's is the third largest grocer in the UK behind Tesco and Asda and has recently found itself under pressure from fourth-placed Morrisons.
