Myerson PR man's shock

The PR chief handling the controversial book by novelist Julie Myerson has admitted he had not expected such high levels of media coverage.

Bloomsbury acting publicity director Colin Gibson told PRWeek: ‘We were surprised and, possibly naïvely, we hadn’t realised the degree to which it would be hijacked as a tabloid story.’

Myerson has been criticised for The Lost Child, which rev­eals details about her son’s use of cannabis.

Gibson said it had been ­important to respond: ‘We’d originally decided that Julie would remain silent until publication in May, but once her son had been interviewed it became important that people should be allowed to judge the facts for themselves.’
