Opinion: From our readers - Profumo is good role model for bankers

Ian Monk's well thought out column (Opinion, 13 February) on public figures 'saying sorry' brought to mind the parliamentary and public apology of cabinet minister John Profumo in a major scandal some 50 years ago.

Following his disgrace - not unlike our current banking 'friends' - he spent decades in a form of sackcloth and ashes helping underprivileged children in London's East End; and became much admired, not least by his film actress wife, who remained loyal.

'Sorry' is a necessary word, but don't actions speak louder?
