City: Big agencies vie for Drax

The City's top agencies are going head to head to win a retained brief with the operator of Europe's largest coal-fired power station.

Drax Power, operator of Yorkshire's Drax Power Station, is repitching its UK financial comms account. The incumbent agency is Tulchan Communications.

It is understood the pitch process is under way, with one agency source noting that 'all of the big agencies' were going for the business.

The brief, believed to be worth a six-figure sum, incorporates UK financial comms and investor relations.

Tulchan was first asked to work with Drax in mid-2005 to advise on its financial comms ahead of the firm's listing and refinancing in December 2005. The agency has had a retained financial comms brief with the firm ever since.

Drax Power Station provides around seven per cent of the UK's entire supply of electricity. Last week the company became embroiled in the wildcat strikes against the use of foreign labour at a Total-owned plant when 150 of its own workers downed tools in a sympathy walkout.
