From our Readers - The world needs to be patient with Obama

'Deficit' is a common word these days, but reputation deficit is a term rarely used. It is the shortfall between communities' expectations of organisations or individuals versus what they are ultimately able to deliver.

Barack Obama too is at the edge of a reputational abyss. Amid the 'gathering clouds and raging storms' of an economy touching its second great depression, with consumptive wars being waged and welfare systems under strain, he may find the public's initial euphoria short-lived without some early economic 'wins'.

Reasonable patience must be his repeat message to the world if he is to overcome this first goodwill challenge.
