- The lowdown

The Local Business Heroes campaign has recently been launched to stimulate entrepreneurship in Sheffield. The aim is to help residents recognise, celebrate and emulate the city's entrepreneurs, while promoting the fact that BiG: Make it Your Business can help them overcome practical stumbling blocks.

- Why is this campaign happening now?

BiG: Make it Your Business, Sheffield's Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, is investing £24.4m in the first four years of a ten-year programme aimed at increasing entrepreneurship in the city.

- Who is being targeted?

Residents of Sheffield who want to start up their own business or recent start-ups that need help.

- What are the plans?

Celebrity entrepreneurs, successful local business people or recent start-ups from the communities BiG wants to reach will be used. Inspirational case studies will be issued to the media.

- Is anything else on the agenda?

A celebration event is planned further into the campaign. The PR campaign is supported by marketing activity including advertising in local media, posters and leaflets, stakeholder engagement involvement in local business awards and events.

- Are there any potential pitfalls?

The economic downturn could be seen as a difficult time for people to start a business. The campaign will argue there are still success stories of small businesses thriving during the recession.
