Agencies vie for HP brief

Technology giant HP has put a Europe-wide PR brief out to pitch, with as many as 12 agencies believed to be in contention for the account.

HP is looking at hiring a new agency to handle PR for its Personal Systems Group (PSG), which includes notebooks, desktops and workstations.

Porter Novelli currently handles the EMEA business, as well as the UK account. The business is worth seven figures. The review will determine whether to consolidate regional and local accounts.

Last year, HP pulled the bulk of its printing business out of Porter Novelli, turning instead to Edelman (PRWeek, 26 June 2008). But Manuel Linnig, PR manager for PSG, said the new pitch was not driven by dissatisfaction with the incumbent.

‘We’re very happy with Porter Novelli, but it never hurts to review,’ he said.
