He has already left the agency and does not have a job to go to.

He told PRWeek: ‘The current economics don’t allow for huge growth in the corporate affairs department.’

Ketchum deputy CEO Avril Lee said the agency was responding to ‘the volatility of the global economy’.

She added: ‘The corporate team continues to support clients and Ketchum remains committed to corporate affairs in London and across our global network.  Patrick is a great guy and we wish him well in the future.’

The corporate and public affairs team will be managed on a day-to-day basis by MD of public affairs Rod Cartwright, with support from the global practice leadership, CEO David Gallagher and Lee.

Barrow joined Ketchum in June 2007 from his position as MD of industry body the PRCA. Prior to joining the PRCA, Barrow held senior corporate affairs positions for T-Mobile, Thomas Cook Travel and the Telegraph Group.

Current clients for the corporate affairs team include FedEx Express, Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, Russian Federation, Hertz, KFC and Samsonite.
