From our Readers - Labour needs to lose control of its site ..

As the person leading the Conservative Party's online campaign efforts, I welcomed the Labour Party's recognition of the blogosphere as a vital way to connect with the grassroots (, 12 January).

Yet, for all the talk from Derek Draper about openness on the web, Labour's new site - Labour - stifles frank discussion. The contributors read like a who's who of Labour activists. Draper admits the site will 'unashamedly support the Government'.

One reason why the right has been so successful online is because of the lack of control we, the Conservative Party, have over what our activists say. Losing control is daunting, but it is the future.
