It may be an inconvenient truth for your columnist Ian Monk (Opinion, 12 December), but the fact is that the Game Plan report allegedly 'leaked' to The Times was published, not shelved, in 2002 and has been in the public domain for six years, on websites, press releases, discussed at conferences, examined by other researchers and media.
The report acknowledges the gains that have been made in past host countries from staging the Olympics. It makes clear - and we agree - that hosting events such as the Olympics does not necessarily lead to benefits such as increased participation in sport.
But, far from being an inconvenient truth, the report actually helped focus our drive to ensure that London 2012 does deliver real benefits not just for the capital, but the whole country. We have been very clear that we need to take steps to ensure those benefits happen - and we have and we are.
