Tarique Ghaffur, previously Britain's former most senior Asian policeman, has brought in PR support to combat a swathe of negative press since leaving the force.

He has called in PHA Media, headed by former News of the World editor Phil Hall. The account is being headed by Hall, who has been briefed to present Ghaffur’s side to the press.

Ghaffur received a £280,000 out-of-court settlement last month over controversial race claims he made against

Metropolitan Police Commissioner Sir Ian Blair.

‘After 34 years on the front line for the police, he felt he was being painted as a troublemaker,’ said Hall. ‘He has had one fallout with one individual and we want to get across the real Tarique.’

Ghaffur was put on gardening leave from the Metropolitan Police on 9 September and resigned on 27 November.
