Parsons, who is a sports correspondent and presenter for BBC News, will begin at the BOA in the New Year.

During his time at BBC News Parsons fronted the television coverage of the Athens and Beijing Olympics and reported on London's 2012 campaign.

This latest hire follows the BOA's recent appointments of Andy Hunt as chief executive and Hugh Chambers as chief commercial officer. Parsons will report to Chambers.

Chambers said: ‘Now that we have pulled together all commercial aspects of the BOA under one umbrella, including communications, there is a great opportunity for Adam to develop a truly integrated media and public affairs strategy that can benefit all of our stakeholders.'
