Technology: Hotwire wins Beem brief

Hotwire has been hired to launch a service that allows mobile users to transfer money and make payments via text.

Beem has already signed up around 40 UK businesses, including pizza chains, taxi services and university student unions. It is also in discussions with London 2012 to provide mobile payments for tickets, travel and merchandise.

Hotwire will initially work on a social media campaign to raise Beem's profile among consumers.

Maria Hudson, head of telecoms at Hotwire, said because Beem is not linked to any operators, banks, or handset providers it is in a better position to succeed than previous attempts to introduce mobile phone payment services.
