Don't lie to us, PROs told

Senior journalists have warned PROs who lie to journalists or fob them off by not returning calls that they are doing terrible damage to their organisations.

The call came at a crisis comms conference held in London on Tuesday by PRWeek.

The Times home news editor Martin Barrow warned PROs: ‘If we know you’re lying, we will work extra hard to ensure we expose you and your company.’

Sky News political correspondent Glen Oglaza accused some government PR professionals of hiding behind
‘security issues’ in order to lie.

Oglaza also laid into government PROs for not phoning back quickly. ‘Some of the ministries I deal with have huge press offices, yet can’t seem to respond in time for a deadline, let alone provide an answer,’ he fumed.
