Vanessa Potter’s brief is to develop and strengthen the university’s brand and market penetration.
Potter joins from the Big Lottery Fund where she was director of policy and external relations.
Potter has more than 15 years senior management experience in the public and third sectors and has worked in central and local government and for the National Union of Students.
She will be responsible for leading the university’s marketing, UK, EU and international recruitment, admissions, corporate communications, fundraising, development and alumni relations and arts operations.
The news follows the appointment of the university’s new vice-chancellor, Professor Colin Riordan, who has set ambitious targets for growth in student numbers, a rise in the university’s world ranking, and increasing philanthropic giving.
