Opinion: From our readers - Comms is only a part of crisis management

With reference to your article on crisis management (Features, 7 November), it is important to remember that the overall response is what matters.

The comms function is one part - albeit an important one - of an overall incident management process.

While the comms team may be on the front line in one sense, the teams physically fighting the fire or speaking to distressed relatives or evacuees will justifiably argue they too are under pressure.

A number of our clients run exercises for the comms teams, but we always recommend that clients also run full crisis management drills to test the interfaces within the team and with outside agencies.
