As he himself so eloquently, if unwittingly, proved, the public debate about speed cameras is polarised. We knew that whatever comms strategy we adopted - and yes, we did have one - virtually all commentators, pressure groups and journalists would just pick the facts they needed to reinforce their long-held positions. Sure enough, no-one surprised us in that respect.
Still, at least the journalists rang the council to test what was being said before adopting their expected angles. Luke Blair didn't contact us at all before giving his road safety lecture, or before presuming to pass judgement on our comms performance.
