But flustered attempts to distance Western companies from the unjustifiable pause before recall must be addressed.
Western businesses are not going to abstain from offshoring - particularly in the current economic downturn. But no-one would assert that financial gain should be at the expense of consumer safety. There must be a degree of accountability from the industry and best practice rigorously pursued.
Globalised companies must have arrangements in place that can spring into action as soon as a disaster occurs.
