ITV cuts will restrict PROs

Swingeing cuts to ITV's regional news output poses fresh challenges for PROs, according to charity comms chiefs.

'There is less airtime to target, but there may be advantages,' said RSPCA's head of press and media Henry Macaulay.

'There will be fewer resources so PROs should think about providing a package. Supply more of your own video content,' he added.

Mencap's press and PR manager Sam Heath agreed that PROs would have to adapt. 'For example, postcode lottery stories would not work if smaller regions were expanded.'

ITV announced 1,000 job losses this week, which includes 40 per cent of its regional news staff.

ITV's director of corporate comms Ruth Settle said the latest round of redundancies would not include comms staff.
