Weber Shandwick, Consolidated PR and Staniforth have pitched for the six-figure account and a decision will be made during the next month.
Moneyextra.com's brief focuses on the website's price comparison service, and calls for an agency that can maintain its profile in the personal finance press while also building the brand in the mainstream media.
The site's head of PR Jennifer Rose said: 'This is the first time we have had an agency on board because PR is something we have never done before. In order for us to compete, we need to step up our PR activities and achieve coverage in major news sources.'
Rose herself was only appointed two weeks ago on a freelance basis from her own agency Rose Mason PR, which she set up this month. She established the consultancy with her partner Richard Mason, a founder of Moneysupermarket.com.
Rose Mason PR provides in-house support to small personal finance and price comparison websites. Rose previously worked at Confused.com.
Moneyextra.com was recently sold by wealth management business AWD Chase de Vere to a group of independent investors.
