Crisis work for Telford

The comms chief at Telford and Wrekin Council has blamed an unclear letter sent out by another department for a barrage of negative publicity this week.

The council found itself in various national newspapers on Wednesday amid suggestions that 'people taking a stroll in a park on their own were being stopped and questioned by council officials on the look-out for paedophiles'.

Head of comms Steven Jenkins said the story was the result of a letter sent out by the council. 'The sentence from the officer at the council could have been more clearly phrased,' he said.

Jenkins added that he was working solidly to kill the story by putting out the message that only five people had been approached by council staff this year.
