Mayor cuts comms fund

London mayor Boris Johnson will restructure his comms departments in an attempt to make 20 per cent cash savings.

The mayor revealed on Wednesday that he intends to group together all external comms and liaison activities as a new corporate affairs group.

This new unit would lead on ‘relations with the boroughs, with government, and projecting and explaining our work’, said the mayor.

The mayor said ‘a personal priority’ was to achieve 20 per cent savings from his comms budget. His chief press officer Samantha Hart said that these savings would mostly be made by not filling some vacancies, although some redundancies could be made.
