It was revealed this week that upgrades on the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines of the London Underground will cause a funding gap of more than £3bn.
TfL has blamed the Government and said the Treasury would have to step in.
A senior industry source said: ‘The brief is about TfL promoting its work to upgrade the Tube – which is important now that it is effectively doing Metronet’s work.’
TfL lead senior press officer Adi Frost said that TfL had not yet issued a brief, but she declined to comment on whether it had any plans to do so in the future.
Metronet, the contractor that was maintaining two-thirds of the Tube, collapsed last year after building up
a projected overspend of at least £2bn.
TfL currently uses a roster of agencies, comprising Freud Communications, Fishburn Hedges, London Communications Agency, Porter Novelli and Weber Shandwick.
