Operating profit was up 24.9 per cent to £9.1 million (the same period in 2007 saw operating profit of £7.3 million). Organic growth stands at 11.1 per cent.

'Contrary to the view taken by the stock market we're not suffering,' said Chime chairman Lord Bell. 'Advertising offline is affected by the economic gloom more than anything, but the PR business remains very strong.'

Chime has both advertising and PR interests, but owns the UK's largest PR firm The Bell Pottinger Group. The group contains Bell Pottinger Corporate and Financial, Good Relations and Resonate amongst others.

'We're confident for the rest of the year with 90 per cent of the year's income already committed,' added Bell. 'No-one knows what is going to happen in 2009, but we keep control of costs and we remain confident.'
