UCB appoints WS.

Weber Shandwick Healthcare and sister agency DNA Medical Communications have been appointed by UCB to support new brand, Lacosamide. WS healthcare MD Lucie Harper will head the account.

Millward Brown, the brand research firm, has found only three per cent of UK consumers refer to informal sources online for information on over-the-counter medicines. The survey of 1,000 UK consumers also found that 53 per cent use company information, including doctors' leaflets and information on packaging and company websites, as the source of their advice.

The Prescription Medicines Code of Practice Authority has advised pharma firms to take a closer look at promotional material aimed at health professionals that is being sent on their behalf by third parties, including PR agencies, after complaints.

The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations has called for more public awareness of the threat posed by extremist animal rights groups.
