Margaret Meldrum joins the agency from her role as marketing manager at confectionary giant Cadbury. She was responsible for strategic development of products across Cadbury's brand portfolio.
Meldrum has also worked at pharma giants Novartis, Pfizer and Warner Lambert, amassing more than 10 years' experience with consumer healthcare brands such as Nicotinell, Voltarol, Tixylix, Listerine and Calpol.
At Spink, her role as director of consumer health will see her provide strategic direction for existing and new clients, as well as growing the agency's client portfolio.
Spink founder and director Jo Spink said the agency was bolstering its consumer division in the face of increasing budgets and opportunities across the sector.
'A large number of prescription-only medicines to over-the-counter (OTC) switches are predicted and there will also be an increase in the number of "patient focused" disease awareness campaigns by the ethical sector, which will add to growth in the consumer arena,' said Spink. 'We are also seeing an increase in OTC clients moving budget from above to below the line.'
Spink clients include Wyeth Consumer Healthcare, McNeil and Stiefel. Consumer brands the agency works on include Anadin, Imodium, Oilatum, Zantac, Milk of Magnesia, Andrews and Litozin.
'There is a real need for pharma to run emotionally led brand campaigns rather than functional marketing processes,' said Meldrum.
