From our Readers - Isn't it time to put Africa on the map?

I have nothing against the Finnish people, who are makers of great mobile phones and vodka, to name just two qualities. But I do question their country's inclusion in your International Report over any countries from Africa (Features, 25 July).

Not one of the 53 countries that make up the African continent was on your map, despite the enormous potential in the region. I am in Lagos, Nigeria, a country with a population 25 times that of Finland. Its economy is growing at six per cent a year, and it has a thriving and professional PR community.

Opportunities abound. The mobile phone industry has yet to sign up 70 per cent of the population, while the numbers for banks are even greater. Of course, Africa has any number of well-publicised obstacles hindering its development - infrastructure and bureaucracy to name but two. But were we not saying the same thing about India just a few years ago?

Come on PRWeek, put Africa on the map, too.
