Skills council to create roster

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) wants to name up to 45 agencies across the UK to bolster its regional PR operation.

In the week the Government's learning record came under fire (see above), the quango announced it was developing a roster that would include three to five agencies for each of its nine regions.

The roster will handle small-scale PR support to the in-house team. The roster is expected to be used until 2010, when the LSC will be abolished to bring in three new agencies that will focus on young people, funding for skills and apprenticeship.

This is the first time that the LSC has developed a roster of small regional agencies. LSC regional head of marketing and communications Debbie Goode estimated that the agencies would handle budgets of up to £5,000.

The LSC is currently in the first stage of meeting agencies, and hopes to have the roster in place by the end of next month.
