The corporation is setting up its first roster of preferred agencies and is said to be looking for a ‘small handful' of agencies.

The new set-up will mirror the Central Office of Information's roster model, with every agency on the list eligible to pitch for any new briefs.

The BBC currently uses entertainment specialist Taylor Herring for flagship shows such as Doctor Who and The Apprentice.

The BBC is making the move to comply with EU regulations and BBC best practice. It comes months after former Reuters corporate affairs director Ed Williams stepped into the top comms role at the BBC.
