Hannah Daws has been promoted from comms manager to head of comms after only six months on the job. She heads up a new team comprising media officer Lisa Gains, who moved from Fulham FC where she was a press officer, and website editor Sasha Jule.

The crime-fighting charity has restructured its comms team following the departure of director of comms and fundraising Rob Hughes, who joined in 2006 and left last year.

Now, Crimestoppers’ fundraising function is separate from its PR team. Daws is looking to hire more media officers as the charity celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. ‘It’s a small team and I’d love to increase that resource,’ she said.

She added that this year will see Crimestoppers clarifying its position in the national press. ‘We just want to make people aware that we are a charity, and not part of the police,’ Daws said. ‘If we’re able to communicate that we will get more corporate support.’
