Diary: Let's Meet at - Blakes Restaurant, Liverpool

Liverpool is renowned for being an absolute riot (is she referring to Toxteth in the early 1980s? - Ed) and, with its status as this year's Capital of Culture and an ever-increasing number of hip bars and eateries, it is well worth a look in.

Doing business in Liverpool is becoming commonplace and I recently had the pleasure of visiting every Beatles fan's dream: Blakes Restaurant in the Hard Days Night Hotel.

Blakes owes its name to Sir Peter Blake, celebrated pop artist, who created the iconic cover for the Sgt Pepper album. It manages to combine a chic, minimalist interior with oodles of Beatles' history, such as Sgt Pepper album cover portraits.

The menu itself would give any London media haunt a run for its money, featuring traditional dishes with a modern twist, all made with organic ingredients.

The Blakes fish pie with smoked haddock, salmon, king prawn and leeks is a personal favourite, but the fillet of beef with foie gras and bubble and squeak is also not to be missed.

The hearty desserts, such as custard tart and knickerbocker glory don't disappoint and, if you're really lucky, you might just catch the Beatles busker serenading people on the way out.
