Israel hunts for agency support

The nation of Israel is pitching out its high-profile tourist account after 18 months with Weber Shandwick (WS).

Uzi Gaffini, Israeli Government Tourist Office UK and Ireland director, heads the search. WS and Gaffini both declined to comment on the pitch.

Last month the Israeli Government Tourist Office kicked off a year of festivities as the country celebrates 60 years of independence.

A history of conflict and the still-disputed Gaza Strip have deterred many visitors, but Israel is still set to bring in 2.8 million holidaymakers this year. It is trumpeting its beaches and hot climate in an integrated campaign.

Prior to engaging WS in 2006, the tourist office hired Halpern PR for three months (PRWeek, 28 October 2006).
