There is a time and a place for any type of hospitality.

A raucous and lively beer-swilling pub culture still fuels the pistons of many of the City's dealing rooms and deal-makers, despite the credit crunch and shift of many establishments further east to Canary Wharf.

Finding a haven away from this hustle and bustle is about being in the know, particularly when it comes to the Cellar Bar. The entrance is rather abstract. When you eventually reach the bar, warm lighting and friendly staff offer a welcome sanctuary from the buzz outside.

The Cellar Bar offers a straightforward and informal setting beneath a livelier and more formal restaurant - The Gable.

Food is classic tasty pub grub/school dinner-style, such as sandwiches, sausages and mash and chilli beef. There is also a welcome light lunch option and homemade specials, with an open-plan kitchen giving a tantalising glimpse of what is to come. The Cellar Bar is comfortable and relaxed, ideal for an informal lunch with colleagues or a working lunch with a client you know well. And while the chatter of the diners upstairs is always in the background, that distinctive City din is far enough away to hear yourself think.
