Diary: Hit or Miss... Floundering Fern

Ryvita's decision to hire Fern Britton as a brand ambassador backfired this week following a News of The World exclusive about the TV presenter.

It revealed that Britton's dramatic weight loss was not due to healthy eating and exercise as had previously been inferred. Instead she opted for a gastric band to be fitted. Media criticism came thick and fast, but Ryvita stood by its celebrity. Surely it should have done its research before handing Britton an advertising contract worth apparently £200,000? Now that's crackers.
