LETTER: ... and pharma PR must simplify debate

The pharmaceutical industry has got itself in a right pickle over transparency and trust. Problems have been compounded by a siege mentality and increasing red tape, which has stifled communication.

The conclusions of the Virgo Health report are to be applauded. But does the industry really need its medicine sugar-coated in another near-impenetrable dissertation? Simple communication is best. Pharma needs to speak up with plain facts. Drug research costs money. Healthcare is worth paying for. The industry is learning from its mistakes.

BBC journalist Ben Ando comments in the report: 'Capitalism is not a dirty word.' This is the case we need to be making urgently.
