Campaign alerts teens to sunburn

The Teenage Cancer Trust (TCT) is launching a campaign to encourage teenagers to avoid sunburn.

TCT wants to educate teens about sun safety after recent research found that 81 per cent of teens do not always wear a sunscreen when exposed to the sun.

Singer Leona Lewis is to be the face of the campaign. The charity's director of communications Lucy Jackson hopes that the high-profile singer will help get the campaign's message across.

Teens who sign up to the campaign will get a free 'burn alert' text message sent to their phones on hot days to remind them to take sunscreen with them.

The Shunburn campaign is part of Superdrug's CSR programme. Superdrug will provide free suncream for teens at outdoor events during the summer. It will also continue to lobby the Government to reclassify sun protection as an essential health item, reducing VAT from 17.5 per cent to five per cent.
