Diary: Stokoe gets in on casual dress act

'City PROs: staid and wearing Marks & Spencer socks' was how one consumer PRO described his City counterparts at this year's PRWeek PowerBook launch.

Well, those comfortable in the outfits of Savile Row and Stuart Rose may be standing in the face of a tidal wave - as casual dress is on its way.

According to a survey by training company The Aziz Corporation, half of all employers allow staff to wear sneakers and jeans these days - and the number is increasing.

Of course, fashion-conscious consumer types have been wearing casual dress at work for years. Hell, High Street Kensington and the King's Road are their version of Savile Row.

But it is not just the consumer lot getting in on the act, if Richard Stokoe, head of news at the LGA, is anything to go by.

When PRWeek kindly requested its regular public sector columnist get his photo for the magazine retaken, even lining up a crack team of photographers, Stokoe was unfortunately on holiday in Madrid at the time, so he sent us the image above instead. Casual dress indeed. Stokoe apparently has his hands full.
