Kelly was put though his paces by the public administration select committee last Friday, along with representatives of Tesco and AstraZeneca.
Committee chair Tony Wright suggested that, as a former chief spokesman for Tony Blair at Number 10, Kelly must have 'quite a contacts book'. But the BAA man seemed keen to stamp on that suggestion. 'Well, actually no,' he spluttered. 'My contacts are with press officers. My main contacts on a daily basis were with other departments' press offices. My role was as a communicator, not a policy maker.'
Just press officers,eh Tom? Surely you're not suggesting that a PRO should not be top of every decent contact book? No? Good, thought so. Just checking.
