Diary: Eco-boat taken up the Panama Canal

When PR involves you doing things you don't expect lesson number 46: The good people of Chatsworth Communications have been ably promoting the eco-boat Earthrace's trip around the globe.

That is, until it stopped just outside of Panama because a massive demand for shipping coupled with work on the canal had led to a huge backlog of ships trying to get through the 50-mile route with delays of weeks expected.

So last Friday, the Chatsworth team spent all day and night in intense negotiations with the Panama Canal Authority press office and commercial team, to help the Earthrace team jump the estimated six week queue and keep its record attempt on track. Two days later it was through. Who said PR doesn't produce measurable results?
