Olympic comms V-P moves to Vero sports agency

Sports comms agency Vero has poached the International Olympic Committee's (IOC) vice-president of marketing communications.

Karen Webb joins as a director, having worked within the Olympic Movement for more than 12 years.

Webb's appointment will provide a further boost to the agency, founded by the former director of comms for the London 2012 bid Mike Lee, which has picked up a range of Olympic-oriented contracts since its inception.

Webb joins Vero on 18 May from the IOC where she helped to develop the marketing and brand strategy to promote, enhance and protect the Olympic brand.

She was also instrumental in devising the Olympic Games' 'Image and Identity' strategy and led the development of the IOC's marketing programmes through its key partners including sponsors and organising committees.

Last month, Vero lost former Portsmouth FC director of comms and Chelsea FC chief press officer Helen Wood, who was head of media relations. Wood joined Bolton Wanderers FC as its head of comms.

Before joining Vero, Wood was a media officer at UEFA.
