Cliched as it may sound as an ethnic comms consultant, I feel obliged to expose my clients to the delights of traditional and contemporary 'ethnic' cuisine, and Caribbean Scene is definitely one of my favourites of the many in London.
Concealed in the newly refurbished Royal Victoria Dock, just metres from ExCeL London and overlooking the ExCeL Marina, the surroundings are a far cry from the Caribbean, especially on a cold, wet, winter's day. But once inside, you are greeted by friendly staff and a warm Caribbean-inspired decor.
Headed by award-winning chef Anthony Cumberbatch (ex-Ivy), the fusion of traditional herbs, spices and marinades is clearly the secret behind the cleverly crafted dishes. For the less ambitious, the signature dish of succulent stuffed jerk chicken is inspiring. The dessert menu - which has less of a Caribbean focus - will definitely have weight-watching resolutions falling by the wayside.
The wine menu is extensive but, for a real taste of the tropical islands, you can sample an array of Caribbean-inspired cocktails made with traditional rum - clearly not for the fainthearted or those with an afternoon meeting.
With a choice of alfresco dining in the summer and a menu that will not break the bank, Caribbean Scene is a hit for client lunches with a difference.
