Ben Preston, former international editor of The Times, is moving to The Independent to be executive editor, working with newly appointed editor Roger Alton.

City AM has promoted Jeremy Hazlehurst from diary editor to features editor. Victoria Bates will takeover the Capitalist Diary. Arts editor Johanna Thomas-Corr will also act as deputy features editor.

The Spectator business editor Martin Vander Weyer has been appointed editor of the new monthly Spectator Business magazine.

The Daily Mail has hired Michael Lea as political reporter, replacing Jane Merrick, who is now the political editor at The Independent on Sunday.

The Economist offshoot Intelligent Life has promoted deputy editor Tim de Lisle to editor of the quarterly lifestyle magazine. He remains the rock critic for the Mail on Sunday.

Men's monthly Maxim has appointed Stuart Messham as deputy editor. He will also edit the reviews section.

Reuters reporter Neil Shah is joining The Wall Street Journal Europe, where he will cover the London Stock Exchange and credit and equity markets. Shah will be based in New York and then will relocate to London.

The Sunday Times' David Budworth has moved to The Times to be deputy personal finance editor. Dearbail Jordan has been named deputy online business news editor at The Times.

Eugenie Hanmer has joined Conde Nast Traveller as fashion and beauty editor. Hanmer was contributing fashion editor on Easy Living.

Haymarket's environmental title ENDS Report has hired Catherine Early as a writer. She was previously deputy news editor at sister publication Planning.

Paula Maddin is covering for Ashling McCloy as acting fashion director at weekly gossip title Reveal while she is on maternity leave until later this year.

Insurance Times reporter James Dean is moving to The Law Society's weekly, the Law Gazette.

South West Media Group title The Plymouth Herald has promoted senior reporter Matt Fleming to the role of business editor.


Blue Peter presenter Gethin Jones is moving to BBC Radio Five Live as a Saturday morning host. He will oversee sport, music and culture.


Travel Weekly news reporter Kelly Ranson has been hired as UK editor for, the website for cruise news and reviews.

Ian Wallis has been appointed editorial director and head of Entrepreneur TV for, to be launched soon. He joins from Crimson Business, where he edited Growing Business magazine as well as three related websites.

Bridal magazine Wedding is launching a new website, providing inspiring content and photos for brides-to-be. The website will be edited by Kate Smallwood, the print title's associate and web editor.

Guardian Unlimited travel editor Liane Katz is taking a leave of absence to finish a book. Travel enquiries should go to while she is away.
